Clarifying Lawyer Matters

Uncontested means both parties agree on all issues – faster and cheaper. Contested means disagreements exist, requiring negotiation, mediation, or trial.

Uncontested: 30–90 days (after 60-day waiting period). Contested: 6 months to 2+ years.

At least one spouse must have been a Tennessee resident for 6 months before filing.

Tennessee follows equitable distribution – marital property is divided fairly, not necessarily 50/50.

Marital property (acquired during marriage) is divided. Separate property (pre-marriage, inheritances, gifts) is generally not divided.

Based on the best interest of the child – including stability, emotional ties, parental fitness, and the child's preference (if mature).

Using the Tennessee Child Support Guidelines (income shares model) – based on both parents' income, number of children, parenting time, and expenses.

Rehabilitative, transitional, alimony in futuro (long-term), and alimony solido (lump sum).

Yes, if there is a material change in circumstances (job loss, relocation, changed needs, etc.).

Yes. We provide full notarization services for marital settlement agreements, parenting plans, financial affidavits, and all court filings.
